Biographical Information[edit]
After eight seasons in the majors (and all but two games with the Cincinnati Reds), pitcher Benny Frey suffered an arm injury. He committed suicide in 1937 by carbon monoxide poisoning, apparently despondent over being unable to make a comeback.
He holds a couple of obscure records, both related to consecutive innings pitched in relief without recording a strikeout. He holds both the single-season mark with his final 29 1/3 innings in 1933, and that for multiple seasons as he extended the streak to 57 1/3 innings over the next two seasons. He did record some strikeouts when working as a starter over that span, however.
