Bend Timber Hawks

The Bend Timber Hawks were members of the 1978 Northwest League. The club went 35-37 as an Oakland A's farm team, finishing two games behind the Eugene Emeralds in the southern division. Ed Nottle's club drew 14,420 fans. Keith Atherton (7-3, 3.42) and Steve Oliver (2-5, 2.55) were the top pitchers. While the club led the circuit in batting average (.284) they boasted no All-Stars or prominent players on the field. 2B Mike Woodard hit .342/~.426/.385, third in the NWL in average, but was caught stealing 15 times in just 34 attempts. 1B Dana Berry was tenth in the league in average with a .311/~.362/.544 line and OF Albert Armstead was sixth in average, hitting .328/~.433/.545 with 19 steals. Also in the outfield was future General Manager Omar Minaya, who hit .208/~.328/.302. The Timber Hawks did not return in 1979.
