Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Ben Wiltbank played six seasons of minor league ball.

While at Cape Henlopen High School, Wilbank was All-Conference and All-State. He was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 15th round of the 1977 amateur draft and was signed by scout Murray Cook. He made his pro debut that summer with the Niagara Falls Pirates, going 6-5 with a 3.08 ERA in 12 starts, while striking out 82 batters in 76 innings. He spent most of the next year with the Salem Pirates, posting a 11-10 record and a 2.92 ERA in 25 starts. He pitched for the AA Buffalo Bisons over parts of the next four seasons before a knee injury ended his career in 1982.

Following his playing days, Wiltbank formed a mortgage brokerage and lending company while continuing to coach baseball in his native Delaware. He was inducted into the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005. He died in 2021 at age 65.
