Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Ben Taylor was a 7th round selection by the Boston Red Sox in the 2015 amateur draft, out of the University of South Alabama. The signing scout was Danny Watkins. He split that first season between the Lowell Spinners of the New York-Penn League and the Greenville Drive of the South Atlantic League, combining to go 0-2, 3.11 in 14 games and 55 innings. He was moved to the bullpen in 2016 and played for two teams again, the Salem Red Sox of the Carolina League and the Portland Sea Dogs of the Eastern League. In 36 games, he went 1-2 with 8 saves and a 2.96 ERA. In 79 innings, he struck out 98 batters while walking only 22 and giving up 63 hits.

Ben went to spring training with Boston in 2017 and caused a surprise by making the team out of spring training. He made his big league debut on April 7th, against the Detroit Tigers. He replaced starter Steven Wright with two outs in the 7th with the Red Sox down 4-0. He struck out the only batter he faced, Ian Kinsler.
