Biographical Information[edit]

Ben Heath was drafted in 2010.

Heath was All-Conference as a high school junior and senior. As a freshman at Penn State, he was 1 for 17 with two walks as a third-stringer. He hit .289/.345/.402 in a part-time role as a sophomore. His career really took off as a junior. He hit .369/.451/.747 and set a new PSU record with 19 homers, breaking the 32-year-old mark of Dave Simononis. He finished second in school history with 148 total bases and third in slugging. He was named All-Big Ten Conference at catcher, the first PSU All-Conference first-team position player in nine years. Collegiate Baseball named him second-team All-American behind Yasmani Grandal. The Houston Astros took him in the fifth round of the 2010 amateur draft, the highest a Penn State position player had gone since 1976.

Heath made his pro debut on Opening Day for the Tri-City Valley Cats, hitting fifth and going 1 for 3 with a sac fly in a 4-3 win over the Connecticut Tigers.
