Biographical Information[edit]

Barry Stace was one of the first Australians to play in the minors, following Sidney Thompson, Kevin Greatrex and Dick Shirt (possibly others). He had played for the Australian national team in the 1971 Asian Championship, their first Asian Championship. He split the 1973 season between the Kansas City Royals' Waterloo Royals (3-3, 2.37), Kingsport Royals (2-1, 2.43) and GCL Royals (1-0, 3.86). He allowed only 61 hits in 82 innings but walked 43. Despite his 2.52 ERA, it was his only season in the US.

Stace was on the Australian national team that won Bronze in the 1975 Asian Championship; it was Australia's only medal in an Asian Championship. While international tournaments at the time generally did not allow former pros, both Thompson and Stace were with Australia. He later managed a flooring company in Australia.

Baseball Prospectus at one point claimed Stace was 16 years older and had posed as a younger man to sign and that he was the first Australian to play in the US. They later corrected their claims.
