Biographical Information[edit]
Barney Schreiber pitched three games for the 1911 Cincinnati Reds but is more famous for his five years with the Denver Grizzlies. In 1911-13, the Denver team won the Western League pennant each year, winning 111 games, 99 games and 104 games. Schreiber, for his part, went 21-11 with Denver in 1910, 15-8 in 1911, 20-9 in 1912, numbers are missing for 1913, and 14-9 in 1914. He then followed that up with a 15-11 year for the Lincoln Tigers. Prior to his Denver days, Barney had been with the Decatur Commodores and the Terre Haute Hottentots, winning 22 games in 1908.
Although his name was David, he may have gotten the nickname "Barney" from another man named Barney Schreiber, who was a high-profile race horse owner of the time.
