There have been five distinct franchises known as the Baltimore Orioles.

• Baltimore Orioles (AA) and Baltimore Orioles (NL) were the first such franchise which operated in the American Association from 1882-1891, and the National League from 1891-1899.

• Baltimore Orioles (Atl) played in the minor league Atlantic Association in 1890

• Baltimore Orioles (1901-1902) were the ancestors of today's New York Yankees franchise.

• Baltimore Orioles (IL) were members of the minor league International League from 1903-1953 except for the 1915 season

• Baltimore Orioles is the modern American League franchise, which started play in 1954.
