Biographical Information[edit]
Bailey Horn pitched for Auburn University in the 2019 College World Series. He was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 5th round of the 2020 amateur draft but a year later, on July 29, 2021, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs in return for reliever Ryan Tepera as the Cubs were in the middle of a fire sale, unloading a large number of veterans within the span of a few weeks. He reached AA in 2022, making 28 appearance with the Tennessee Smokies of the Southern League and going 1-3, 3.46 with 4 saves. He continued his progression in 2023, splitting the year between Tennessee and the AAA Iowa Cubs while going 7-3, 4.21, with 3 saves in 45 outings.
On February 27, 2024 he was traded back to the White Sox in return for P Matthew Thompson. He failed to make the team in spring training and was designated for assignment on April 26th in order to make room on the team's 40-man roster. At the time, he was 1-1, 11.31 after 9 games for the Charlotte Knights in the International League. He was purchased by the Boston Red Sox four days later and it was with them that he made his major league debut on June 29th. Before that, he went 1-2, 1.69 in 12 games for the Worcester Red Sox, staying in the International League. In his debut, he came in to relieve Tanner Houck who had been uncharacteristically ineffective against the San Diego Padres, giving up 8 runs in 4 1/3 innings; he allowed two more runs on a homer by Brett Sullivan before completing the 5th inning, then kept the Padres off the scoreboard for two more frames. Boston ended up losing the game, 11-1.
