Biographical Information[edit]
BJ Murray Jr. has played in the minors and been on the Great Britain national team.
Murray is the brother of Brandon Murray and Byron Murray. [1] He struggled as a college freshman (3 for 35, 4 BB, 2 2B, HR) and sophomore (.203/.299/.373 in 15 G) then blossomed as a junior, hitting .311/.424/.584 with 14 homers and 54 RBI in 57 games. He was 4th in Conference USA in homers and 5th in walks (41), earning second-team All-Conference. [2]
The Chicago Cubs took him in the 15th round of the 2021 amateur draft and he signed for a $125,000 bonus. The scout was Ralph Reyes. [3] He made his pro debut with the ACL Cubs, batting .286/.344/.482 in 16 games. In '22, he played for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (.305/.441/.461 in 39 G) and South Bend Cubs (.273/.388/.406 in 56 G) with a 839 OPS overall, playing primarily first base. He was 4 for 19 with a walk and a homer for the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League, playing third base.
He made the British roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic, one of nine players on the team born in the Bahamas. He was also named to play for the National League team in the 2023 Future Game.
