The father of big leaguer Bryan Morris, outfielder Avery "Ricky" Morris was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the sixth round of the 1968 amateur draft. He played five years in their organization, followed by two seasons at the AA level with the Birmingham A's in the Oakland Athletics chain.
Following his playing days, Morris was an assistant coach for a time at Motlow State Community College.
