Biographical Information[edit]
Aurelio Villalta was the first Salvadoran national team pitcher to beat Nicaragua, doing so in the 1990 Central American Games, defeating Asdrúdes Flores (who would set a win record in Nicaragua). El Salvador had lost its prior 15 matches with Nicaragua over the decades. Villalta also got the nod against Nicaragua in the Gold Medal Game and allowed four runs in under four innings, but Cirilo Herrington provided superb relief and El Salvador rallied for their only Central American Games Gold in baseball (through 2020).
