Jun Matsui has caught in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Matsui was signed by the Nankai Hawks in 1949.[1] He mainly played backup for Keizo Tsutsui in his early career, only appearing in 37, 64 and 51 games respectively from 1949 to 1951.[2] Matsui played 77 games with a .245/.253/.321 batting line in 1952. The Kumamoto native took the starting catcher spot in 1953, batted .273/.296/.321 and won the Best Nine award as a catcher. Matsui went 1-for-5 in 1953 NPB All-Star Game, the only hit being a single off Hideo Fujimoto in the 9th inning of Game 3.[3] He was chosen for the All-Star Game in the next summer, but he didn't appear in any of the games.[4] Matsui ended up hitting .253/.273/.334 with a career-high 3 homers in the 1954 season. He recorded a .245/.271/.313 batting line with 3 home runs in 1955. The legendary Katsuya Nomura took the starting catcher spot in 1956, and Matsui played as his backup until he announced his retirement after the 1958 season. He then coached the Hawks from 1961 to 1968.
Overall, Matsui had hit .251/.272/.314in 10 seasons in NPB.
