At the Crack of the Bat
At the Crack of the Bat is a compilation of baseball poetry edited by Lillian Morrison. Selections range from the most famous of the genre, like Baseball's Sad Lexicon or Casey at the Bat, to more obscure selections. Poems featured are long or as short as "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain" (as well as a more recent version, "Niekro and Ryan and three days of cryin'"), with both rhyming and non-rhyming versions and at least one haiku. Included is one composition of the author about a fight in a 1980s Reds-Mets game, "Donnybrook at Riverfront Stadium". As expected in any compilation volume, quality varies.
