At bat
(Redirected from At-bat)
At bats, abbreviated AB, are the total of hits, outs (except sac hits and flies) and times reached by error. An at bat differs from a plate appearance, which counts every time a batter comes to bat in a game situation, as the number of at bats excludes certain results such as walks, hit by pitch, sacrifice hits, and sacrifice flies. At bats are used to calculate batting average and slugging percentage, while plate appearances are used to calculate on-base percentage.
