Biographical Information[edit]

Arthur Allyn Jr., along with his younger brother John Allyn, bought the Chicago White Sox from Bill Veeck in 1961. After the Milwaukee Braves moved to Atlanta, he had the Sox play several games a season in Milwaukee. He also bought a motel near the team's spring training facility in Sarasota, FL so that black players would not have to stay in segregated lodging. Allyn owned the club until 1969, when his brother bought him out to prevent the Sox from being sold to a Milwaukee group.
