Ariel Serrano has played in the minors and for the Panamanian national team.
Serrano was signed by Detroit Tigers scout Ray Webster in July 2012. [1] He hit .210/.265/.333 for the 2013 DSL Tigers but fielded .990 in the outfield, primarily in center and right. In 2014, he batted .248/.318/.323 for the same club and went 10-for-13 in steals. He had 7 outfield assists. During 2015, he hit .244/.300/.327 for the DSL Tigers while starting in center.
Ariel split 2016 between the Lakeland Flying Tigers (3 for 14) and GCL Tigers West (.177/.237/.202 in 42 G) in his US debut. He appeared in 2017 for Lakeland (.156/.214/.233 in 37 G), the GCL Tigers West (5 for 17, 2B) and the Connecticut Tigers (2 for 9, 3B, 2 BB). He finished his 5-season run in the Tigers chain with a .218/.277/.298 batting line, 95 runs and 79 RBI in 241 games, fielding .978 in the outfield. He also pitched one shutout inning.
The Chiriqui native got Panama's only run and RBI in their opening loss in the 2019 Pan American Games Qualifier, homering off Team Canada's Scott Richmond in a 5-1 loss. Their other game, he was 2 for 5 with a double and a run in a 10-4 loss to Colombia. He was Panama's only player with multiple runs in the event. [2]
