Antonio Jiménez Ruiz
Antonio Jiménez was a star Cuban pitcher in the early 1970s. He went 14-1 for the Industriales in 1970-1971, leading the league in wins. He was named both Serie Nacional Most Valuable Pitcher and Serie Nacional Most Valuable Player. In the 1971 Amateur World Series, he had a 2-0, 0.51 record to help the Cuban national team win the Gold. He was 8th in ERA in the event, between Antonio Herradora and Oscar Romero. He went 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA in the 1972 Amateur World Series, another Gold Medal event for Cuba. In the 1973 Amateur World Series, he went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. Overall, in 11 seasons, he was 63-37 with a 2.37 ERA and .210 opponent average; one negative was 392 walks in 846 2/3 IP. He also hit .137 at the plate.
Jiménez later was a coach for the Nicaraguan national team in the 1994 Baseball World Cup, 1995 Intercontinental Cup, 1997 Intercontinental Cup, 1998 Baseball World Cup, 2005 Baseball World Cup and 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers.
