Anthony Perez

Biographical Information[edit]

Anthony Perez is a minor league umpire. He began his umpiring career around 2014 at a Tri-City Valley Cats game in the New York-Penn League and worked his way up through the ranks of the minor leagues. As of 2024 he was umpiring AAA games. Perez apparently grew up in Myrtle Beach, SC and had dreamed of becoming an umpire beginning around age 12.

He worked the 2023 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. On April 5, 2024, Perez had a 100% accuracy rate with calling balls and strikes at an International League game between the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and the the opposing Syracuse Mets. The two teams attempted to challenge four calls made by Perez, using the recently-introduced rules allowing teams to challenge ball and strike calls via the virtual strike zone, and all of these were confirmed to have been correct and were upheld. Perez achieved this despite getting hit in the face by foul tips and having his mask knocked off twice that night.
