Biographical Information[edit]
A basketball Hall of Famer, Andy Phillip was the first NBA player to reach 500 assists. He set a Big Ten Conference basketball scoring record in 1943 as one of the "Whiz Kids". In baseball, Phillip played for three years in the minor leagues.
In 1947, Andy hit .300/?/.529 in 21 games as an outfielder for the Decatur Commodores and went 1 for 2 with a triple and RBI for the Columbus Red Birds. In 1949, he returned to baseball with the Winston-Salem Cardinals and batted .279/?/.440 in 79 games as a regular first base option.
Three years later, Phillip made his final appearances in baseball. He went 0 for 3 with the Indianapolis Indians and hit .276/~.382/.368 in 19 contests with the Bakersfield Indians.
Overall, Phillip hit .281/?/.443 and scored 80 runs in 123 games in the minors.
