Biographical Information[edit]

Andy Mascia began his professional baseball career with the 1951 Big Stone Gap Rebels and got roughed up with a 7.20 ERA, though his record was a respectable 5-7. In 1952, he moved to the Statesville Owls and posted a 3-4, 3.47 record. Moving to the Mayfield Clothiers the next season, Andy went 13-9 with a 3.58 ERA and tied for seventh in the KITTY League in wins. He finished his career with three stops in 1954, going 0-1 for the Danville Dans, getting no decisions for the St. Cloud Rox and going 1-5 with a 5.22 ERA for the Knoxville Smokies. Overall, his career record was 22-26.

Personal Remembrance[edit]

Andy Mascia was a righthanded pitcher on the 1954 St. Cloud Rox of the Class C Northern League. I was also a pitcher on this team. St. Cloud was a farm team of the New York Giants. Andy was a tall slender athlete with black hair, probably age 20 or 21. He was a sinker-ball pitcher. He joined the Rox after the season had started. He may have been pitching for a Class D team (possibly the Mayfield Clothiers) before being promoted to St. Cloud. Andy had a good sense of humor, and was easy to get along with. He probably continued his pro career after St. Cloud, but I don't know what teams he may have played for.
