Biographical Information[edit]
After serving in the United States Navy during World War II, Andy Anderson was a minor league umpire from 1946 to 1951. He worked in the Florida State League, the Georgia-Florida League and the Piedmont League.
Years later, in 1978 he was one of the umpires recruited to work a couple of games on August 25-26 when the regular umpires went on a brief strike. The following year, the umpires struck from the start of the season, and Andy was called in to work again, this time working 17 games before the strike was settled. All of the games took place in Atlanta, GA, near his residence, and he got to work home plate in only one of them.
