Biographical Information[edit]
Andrew Bixby was a pitcher for the New York Eagles of the National Association of Base Ball Players (NABBP) from 1856 to 1861. He previously played for the Jersey City Pioneers in 1855. He was featured in a woodcut portrait from 1865 which depicts the top players of the 1850s and 1860s with a large picture of Jim Creighton overlooking them at the top. Bixby is also reported to have played third base throughout his career and appears to be the second player ever to move from one team to another. The Porter's Spirit of the Times reported in 1856 that " Mr. Bixby, as pitcher, acquitted himself admirably, and has but one fault, that of consuming too much time in preparation, and allowing the men to make their bases too easily."
After his baseball days ended Bixby worked as the chief bookkeeper at the Sub-Treasury in New York City until his death in 1889.
He also umpired in the NABBP from time to time.
