Team Bio[edit]
The Altamonte Springs Snappers are a Summer Collegiate Baseball team playing in the Florida Collegiate Summer League, recognized by Baseball America as being one of the top Summer Collegiate leagues in the United States. The Snappers, debuted in 2005 as the Zephyrhills Snappers, an expansion team to the FCSL, playing their home games in Zephyrhills, FL. The Zephyrhills Snappers won the 2005 FCSL championship which was played at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL, but were forced to pull up roots due to lack of local financing. The Snappers began the 2006 season in Altamonte Springs, FL. The Snappers play their home games at Lake Field. Like every other Summer Collegiate Baseball organization, the Snappers are dedicated and designed to provide minor league-style competition for NCAA players that wish to continue on into professional baseball. The Altamonte Snappers operate in the model of a Minor League team: playing nightly before fans in stadiums which seat thousands, using wood bats and minor league specification equipment, and experiencing road trips between games. The Snappers actively recruit players. Altamonte athletes are unpaid in order to maintain their NCAA eligibility, and live with host families in the same manner as Single A and Independent League players.
