Biographical Information[edit]

Ali Modami was born in New York City and moved to Scottsdale, AZ during his high school years. After high school he played college ball at Oklahoma State University. He batted .267 with a home run in 86 at-bats his senior year. Following graduation, Modami played one season of professional baseball with the independent Sioux Falls Canaries and Niagara Stars.

In his playing career Modami was a first baseman, but later became renowned as a batting practice pitcher. While working out at a training facility in the Phoenix, AZ area, he occasionally threw batting practice to major league players. When he heard the Philadelphia Phillies needed a batting practice pitcher, he applied and got the job. Modami spent five years (2007-2011) with the Phillies before following Jayson Werth to the Washington Nationals where he worked from 2011 to 2020. With the encouragement of Anthony Rendon, Modami then moved across country to the Los Angeles Angels in 2021. With the Angels he held the title of major league staff assistant though he continued to throw batting practice. His expertise in this role led to an invitation to throw batting practice for the United States national baseball team in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Modami continue his position with the Angels through the 2023 season.
