Biograhpcial Information[edit]

Alexander Toropov played briefly in the minor leagues, the last Russian native to debut in the 20th Century. He has played for the Russian national team.

Toropov pitched for the 1999 Great Falls Dodgers, allowing 2 hits, 2 walks, one run and one strikeout in 1 1/3 inning of work. He was timed at the low 90s when he was signed. Toropov injured his arm and was moved to the outfield. In the 2003 European Championship, Alexander went just 3 for 20 with 2 walks and 9 strikeouts as one of his team's lesser hitters. He did better in the 2005 European Championship, hitting .280/.419/.600 with two homers and eight RBI in eight games. He tied Artemiy Artamonov for the team lead in dingers, led Russia's starters in slugging (.078 ahead of Andrey Bolotin) and led the team in RBI (as many as the next two players combined). In the 2007 European Championship, he was 1 for 14 with 7 strikeouts and a double. In the 2008 European Cup in Grosseto, he was 2 for 20 with a triple and 11 strikeouts as the worst hitter for Tornado Balashikha.
