Biographical Information[edit]

As a senior at Indiana University in 1992, infielder Alex Smith hit .490 with 27 home runs and 95 RBIs and became the only Division I player to ever win the Triple Crown. He ended his collegiate career as the school's career home run king with 47. He was then selected by the Texas Rangers in the fifth round of the 1992 amateur draft and played five years in their organization, reaching the AAA level in his final season.
