Biographical Information

New Jersey native Alex Sabo spent six seasons in professional baseball from 1936 to 1941.

The 6'0" catcher made his big league debut with the Washington Senators on August 1, 1936. Unknown at the time Alex, would be back on the same date, only a year later, making his final appearance in the big leagues.

His time in The Show consisted of five appearances behind the plate and eight at-bats, where he managed three base-hits, for a big league career .375 batting average.

Sabo spent the remainder of his pro career in the minor leagues from 1936 to 1941. He appeared with three different clubs over the six-year period, appearing in 356 games with 1,160 at-bats and had 316 base-hits that included 21 home runs for a .272 average.

Alex's most productive year came in 1940. He hit at a .282 clip in 99 games with 337 at-bats for the Trenton Senators of the class B Interstate League.

Sabo served in North Africa for the United States Navy during World War II. On his return in 1946. he was on the Trenton Giants roster but did not play.

Sabo died on January 3, 2001 in Tuckerton, NJ at 90 years of age.
