Biographical Information[edit]
Alex Romero was signed by Minnesota Twins scout Rudy Hernandez in July 2000. He made his pro debut with San Joaquin (VSL) in 2001 and came stateside in 2002. Romero was 1 for 4 with a run and a RBI as a backup outfielder for Venezuela in the 2013 World Baseball Classic. He then signed with Rimini in the Italian Baseball League; he had a nice Opening Day debut, going 3 for 4 with 4 RBI against the Godo Knights, hitting cleanup between Mario Chiarini and Ramon Castro.
On January 8, 2020, he was involved in a nasty incident in the Venezuelan League. Playing for the Aguilas del Zulia against the Caribes de Anzoátegui in a tense game that had already seen three ejections, he took umbrage to a pitch thrown behind his head by reliever Angel Nesbitt and immediately took a couple of swings that landed on catcher Gabriel Lino's back, prompting a bench-clearing on-field brawl. Six more players were ejected, including Romero, Nesbitt and Lino, after order was restored.
