Biographical Information[edit]

Third baseman Alex Ortiz played in the minor leagues for 24 seasons, from 1981 to 2004. All but 18 games came in the Mexican League. Two of those 18 were with the Baltimore Orioles Triple-A affiliate, the Rochester Red Wings, in 1987; he had one hit, a double, in 6 at-bats. He played 16 games for the independent Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings in 1996, slashing .182/.286/.382 with 3 home runs and 9 RBI. He was a slugger, hitting 31 home runs in a season twice per records available -- first with the Tecolotes de Nuevo Laredo in 1984, then with the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos in 1988. He was one of three managers for the Toros de Tijuana in 2004, replacing Carlos Hernandez and being replaced by Tomas Herrera.
