Biographical Information[edit]
Alex McCarthy was a middle infielder who came to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1910 from the University of Notre Dame and spent most of his career with the Pirates. A teammate of Honus Wagner, he was either a double-play partner for Honus or a backup to him for several years.
After the majors he played ten years in the minors with the Kansas City Blues, the Milwaukee Brewers and the Springfield Senators. During three of those years he was also the manager.
