Albert von Tilzer (born Albert Gummbinsky)

Biographical Information[edit]

Albert von Tilzer, born Albert Gummbinsky and also known as Albert Gumm, was an American composer during the first half of the 20th century. Von Tilzer is best remembered for writing the song Take Me Out to the Ballgame accompanied by the lyrics of his frequent collaborator Jack Norworth. Von Tilzer also wrote many other songs including Oh How She Could Yacki, Hacki, Wicki, Wacki, Woo. Curiously, von Tilzer did not see his first baseball game until 1928, twenty years after he wrote his most famous song.

He is the brother of famed composer Harry von Tilzer. It was after his brother that Albert changed his name from Gumm to von Tilzer.

He died in Los Angeles in 1956.
