Alan Smith (Britain)

Alan Smith was a player and executive in Britain.

Smith did not touch a baseball until he was 29 years old but picked up the game quickly. He was an outfielder-pitcher for the London Warriors and Cobham Yankees, winning five titles as a player in the 1980s. In the 1991 European Championship, he allowed 6 runs (2 earned) in 3 1/3 IP (5 H, 1 BB, 0 K). He helped reform the Warriors in 1992 and ran them until 2005 as chief administrator as well as playing pitcher and outfield; they won four national titles in that time. He was 49-16 pitching for the Warriors and led the National Premier League South with 7 wins in 1999.

Smith later served as GM of the British national team (2004-2010), during which they won the Silver Medal at the 2007 European Championship for one of the best British performances ever. In 2014, he was inducted into the British Baseball Hall of Fame in a class with Josh Chetwynd and Cody Cain.
