Biographical Information[edit]

Alan Rangel has pitched in the minors and for the Mexican national team.

Rangel was signed by Atlanta Braves scout Manuel Samaniego in 2014 [1], and he went 0-2 with a 6.31 ERA for the GCL Braves in 2015. He improved to 3-1 with a 3.28 ERA in 2016, then he went 2-6 with a 4.71 ERA for the Rome Braves in 2017. Rangel then had a 5-7 record with a 4.09 ERA in Rome in 2018, his 105 K ranking 10th in the Braves chain (between Bruce Zimmermann and Wes Parsons).

Back with Rome the next year, he collected 10 wins with a 4.51 ERA in 28 games (24 starts). He struck out 121, tying Jasseel De La Cruz for 4th in the Braves chain while only Kyle Wright had more wins among their farmhands. He tied Jose Olague and Grayson Rodriguez for 4th in the South Atlantic League in victories and missed the top-ten in strikeouts by two. He recorded a 2.33 ERA in 14 games for the Naranjeros de Hermosillo in the winter, and he was 1-0 with a 4.72 ERA for them in 2020-2021 after the coronavirus shut down the minor leagues in 2020.

The Hermosillo native was 4-5 with a 3.57 ERA in Rome in 2021, and his ERA was 4.50 with a 3-2 record in 7 appearances for the Mississippi Braves. Rangel slumped to 5-8 with a 5.26 ERA in Mississippi in 2022, and he allowed 2 runs in his only appearances for the Gwinnett Stripers. He was also called up briefly to the MLB club when Spencer Strider went on the injured list, but did not appear in a game. [2] He then made it onto Mexico's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic, but he didn't pitch any games. Rangel was 3-15 with a 4.66 ERA in Mississippi in 2023, and he had a 4.20 ERA in 3 games in Gwinnett. While he led Braves minor leaguers with 140 strikeouts and was 7th in the Southern League, he also led all of minor league baseball in losses.

He became a free agent after the 2023 season, and his ERA was 2.51 in 14 relief outings in Hermosillo. The Los Angeles Angels signed him in 2024. He was 2-0 with a 2.61 ERA for the Rocket City Trash Pandas, and the Angels released him on July 1st. The Philadelphia Phillies then signed him.
