Biographical information[edit]

Alan Butts is a scout for the Atlanta Braves baseball team.

In 1992, Butts joined the Braves, ostensibly as a scout. A recent role with the club was to coordinate the scouting reports of all Braves' opponents as well as take part in other pre-game preparations. He serves as a liaison between the Braves' advance scout and the team itself, helping the team prepare for each series. During each game, he aids the bullpen coach and pitchers in the bullpen. He has also served as the team's bullpen catcher. He was officially listed as a coach in 2011 and 2012, although sources are not consistent regarding whether or not he was a true coach or simply an instructor. He has been listed as a scout as well. He wore number 55 during his time as a coach.

He served on Bobby Cox's coaching staff at the 2000 All-Star Game, also pitching in the Home Run Derby that year.

While attending Valdosta State University, Butts received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Public Relations and Speech Communications. While with Valdosta, he played under coach Tommy Thomas.

He currently resides in Newnan, GA. His nephew, Brett Cammons, was drafted by the Atlanta Braves and pitched in their farm system.
