Biographical Information[edit]

Al Smith was at Villanova University from 1922 to 1926 and made his major league debut with the New York Giants on June 18, 1926. It was his sole major league game.

In 1927 and 1928 he pitched for the Los Angeles Angels of the Pacific Coast League.

Smith had been signed by the Giants on June 15, 1926, after helping the Villanova team to a 19-3 year, and then was put into a game on June 18th against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pete Cote, another recent college graduate out of the College of the Holy Cross, also made his major league debut that day.

Smith was a coach for the Giants in 1933.
