Biographical Information[edit]

The father of big leaguer Dave Otto and grandfather of minor leaguer Travis Otto, outfielder Al Otto played several seasons in the minors in the New York Yankees organization. He made his debut with the 1964 SRL Yankees, hitting .210/.279/.278. With the Binghamton Triplets in 1965, he hit .246/.383/.450 with 15 home runs and 74 walks. He was second on his club in home runs, behind Billy Murphy. He ended his career in 1966, split between Binghamton and the Greensboro Yankees. He hit .151/.226/.239 in 65 games for Greensboro and .179/.313/.310 in 22 games for Birmingham. He also pitched, going 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA and only 8 hits in 17 innings for the Triplets, while tossing one shutout inning for Greensboro. Following his playing days, he was a coach at Rolling Meadows High School, winning six Mid-Suburban League championships from 1972-1988.
