Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Al Bennett played in the Philadelphia Phillies system from 1988 to 1992. He was taken by the club in the sixth round of the 1988 amateur draft, a couple picks ahead of pitcher Blas Minor.

He began his career with a .284 batting average in 52 games for the Martinsville Phillies in 1988, but slumped to .188 for the Batavia Clippers in 1989. After rebounding to .345/.387/.534 (in 16 games) for the Spartanburg Phillies in 1990, he again fell to .234/.295/.341 with 11 steals and 116 strikeouts in 117 games for Spartanburg in 1991. After hitting .234/.266/.362 with 11 swipes, 93 strikeouts and just 14 walks in 109 games between Spartanburg and the Clearwater Phillies in 1992, his career was over.

Overall, he batted .246/.289/.361 in 323 games.
