Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Akeem Bostick was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 2nd round of the 2013 amateur draft out of a high school in South Carolina. He started his career that season with the AZL Rangers, going 4-1, 2.83 in 14 games, including 6 starts. In 2014, he was with the Hickory Crawdads of the South Atlantic League where his record was 5-6 with a 5.18 ERA in 21 games as a starter. He pitched 92 innings and gave up 98 hits, striking out 64 and walking 20 but was quite young for the circuit. On January 21, 2015, he was traded to the Houston Astros in return for C Carlos Corporan.

He is a cousin of NFL tight end Brandon Bostick and was himself about to attend Georgia Southern College to play both football and baseball when he was drafted by the Rangers. they convinced him to forgo the gridiron by offering him a $520,000 signing bonus.
