Agusto Franqui

Agusto Franqui played briefly in Cuban baseball.

He went 3 for 34 with 7 walks in the 1904 Cuban Summer League and went 0-4 on the mound with a 2.93 ERA. In 1905, he was 0 for 4 for the Havana Reds in the Cuban Winter League. He led the CSL with 13 earned runs allowed and he made 5 errors in 8 games in the outfield. In the Cuban Summer League that year, Agusto batted 4 for 44 with 3 walks and went 5-7 with a 1.60 ERA. He again led in earned runs allowed (18). In the 1906 CSL, he allowed 9 runs in five innings and lost his lone decision; he was 1 for 2 at the plate. He had hit .100/~.209/.100 and gone 5-12 in his CSL career.

After his baseball career ended, he worked in the sanitary department of Havana. A 1910 discussion about baseball players riled him up and Franqui shot a man named Florencio Rodriguez. To escape, he jumped into the bay and is believed to have drowned there.
