Biographical Information[edit]
Diminutive infielder Adrian Pinto was the Most Valuable Player of the Dominican Summer League in his first professional season. Playing for DSL Colorado in 2021, he hit .360/.487/.543 in 54 games, scoring 64 runs and driving in 27, drawing 38 walks while striking out just 18 times, and stealing 41 bases in 49 attempts. He had been signed as an amateur free agent by the Colorado Rockies on July 2, 2019 and would normally have begun his pro career in 2020 - except that the minor leagues were shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic that year.
On March 24, 2022, he was included in a major league trade when the Rockies sent him and OF Raimel Tapia to the Toronto Blue Jays in return for Of Randal Grichuk and $9.7 million, representing roughly half the value remaining on Grichuk's contract. In Pinto, the Jays were acquiring a legitimate prospect after giving up a number of their own in recent months in deals to acquire major leaguers.
