Adam Beck
Adam Beck
- Born September 4, 1988 in Altamonte Springs, FL USA
Biographical Information[edit]
Adam Beck was one of 19 umpires to work their first major league games during the abbreviated 2020 season, as a result of a number of veteran umpires deciding to sit out the year due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Beck umpired his first game on August 5th and worked a total of 21 games, most of them in September when he took a regular turn as part of a crew working games in the two Eastern divisions of MLB. Before that, his appearances all came as the fifth umpire of crews working doubleheaders. He was made a permanent member of the major league umpiring crew in 2023.
Beck is a graduate of the MiLB Umpire Training Academy and worked his first professional games in 2013 in the Appalachian League. He also worked in the South Atlantic League, Carolina League, Southern League and International League starting in 2017, as well as the Arizona Fall League. He later became an instructor at the Academy. On August 25, 2014 in a Carolina League game, he and fellow future major league umpire Erich Bacchus were involved in an infamous incident when manager Tommy Thompson of the Winston-Salem Dash disagreed with a call on a checked swing that he made as the first-base umpire. Thompson went on an epic tirade that ended with his taking off his shoes and leaving them on home plate as a statement, and then throwing his helmet into the stands, after being ejected by Bacchus. Beck worked the 2016 Futures Game in San Diego, CA and the 2019 International League championship series.
