Biographical Information[edit]

The son of Panamanian star Abraham Atencio, Abraham Atencio Jr. was a teammate of his father's in 2015, the year his father retired. Atencio Jr. made the Panamanian national team (his father had been a mainstay for Panama) in the 2017 Bolivarian Games, when they won a Silver Medal, but he did not play. He appeared twice for Panama during another Silver Medal run a month later, at the 2017 Central American Games. Relieving Davis Romero in the 6th, he worked 1 2/3 IP (1 H, 2 K, 0 R) against Honduras before Anfernee Benítez took over. He then got the start against host (and Gold Medal winner) Nicaragua and did very well (7 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 4 K, 1 R) but was outdueled by Gustavo Martínez; Jean Corpas closed it out for Panama.
