Biographical Information

A career minor leaguer and journeyman relief pitcher, Aaron Small had a 10-0 record, mostly as a starter, with the New York Yankees in 2005. Ironically, it was the only year he pitched in the postseason, and he was charged with a loss in his sole appearance when he gave up 2 runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in Game 3 of the Division Series on October 7th. He relieved Randy Johnson with the Yankees trailing 5-0 with two on and nobody out in the 4th. He managed to extricate the Yankees from that jam with a strikeout and a double play grounder, then pitched a scoreless 5th inning as well. Meanwhile the Yankees had managed to come back by scoring 4 runs in the 4th and 2 more in the 5th, but in the 6th, he allowed 2 runs on 4 singles to give the Angels back the lead before being relplaced by Tanyon Sturtze, and the Angels managed to hold onto that advantage until the end of the game, winning 11-7.

Small was a high school teammate of Jason Giambi.
