Biographical Information[edit]

Tanyon Sturtze led the American League in a number of categories while pitching for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2002. Unfortunately, he went 4-18, 5.18, for the last-place team, and most of the categories he led were negative: losses (18), bases on balls (89), hits allowed (271) and earned runs allowed (129). He did lead the league in batters faced (1008). He was the workhorse of the Rays' staff that season. He was coming off his best year in 2001, when he was 11-12, 4.42 for another very weak Devil Rays team. Apart for those two seasons, he was mainly a reliever during his 12-year big league career.
