Biographical Information[edit]

Starting pitcher Aaron Northcraft began his professional career in the Atlanta Braves minor league system in 2009. He was taken by the club in the 10th round of the 2009 amateur draft, one pick ahead of catcher Tucker Barnhart, and was signed by scout Tom Battista.

Though a steady performer from 2009 to 2011, the hurler had his first standout season in 2012 with the Lynchburg Hillcats. He won 10 games, led the Carolina League in strikeouts with 160 (in 151 2/3 innings), threw a 7-inning no-hitter against the Salem Red Sox and earned a Pitcher of the Week honor. MLB.com ranked him the 12th-best prospect in the Braves system for 2013. In 2013, with the Mississippi Braves, he went 8-8 with a 3.42 ERA in 26 starts. He earned a spot in that year's Arizona Fall League, going just 1-5 with a 8.00 ERA in 7 starts for the Scottsdale Scorpions. In 2014, he reached Triple A for the first time and went 7-10 with a 4.70 ERA in 26 games (24 starts) overall between two levels.

At the tail end of the 2014 season, Atlanta called Northcraft up from Triple-A Gwinnett. There was one game left in the season, and though Atlanta used five pitchers that afternoon, Northcraft was not one of them. He did not return to the majors after that, and indeed would need to wait until 2021 to make his major league debut.

Northcraft pitched better in the AZFL, going 2-3 with a 2.42 ERA in six starts for the Peoria Javelinas. He joined the San Diego Padres system for 2015 and 2016, going a combined 11-9 with a 4.14 ERA in 67 games (20 starts).
