In 1998, the Arizona League needed an 8th team for scheduling purposes. A co-op team made from the other 7 teams was considered, but the Mexican League Academy was willing to field a team. The club was made up of players under contract to Mexican League teams. 12 of the 16 Mexican League teams provided players in 1998.
