300 Home Runs[edit]

300 home runs was once the measuring stick of a great career for a slugger. It continues to be a standard for very good home run hitters. The 300 home runs club remains a pretty exclusive club with only 160 members as of August 2024. The charter member of the 300 home run club was Babe Ruth who reached the mark on September 8th, 1925. The Babe was the first American League player to reach 300 homers. Mel Ott became the charter member of the 300 home run club for the National League on August 20th, 1937.

Ralph Kiner

The youngest player to hit 300 home runs is Alex Rodriguez who reached 300 homers at 27 years, 249 days old. A-Rod is also the youngest American League player to reach 300 homers. Andruw Jones holds the record in the National League at 28 years, 144 days old. Edgar Martinez is the oldest member to join the 300 home run club; he was 41 years, 130 days old when he reached the mark. Aaron Judge reached 300 homers in the fewest games in history at 944 and in the fewest at-bats at 3,431; the first mark beat Ralph Kiner and the second beat Ruth. In the National League, Sammy Sosa reached the 300 home run mark in the fewest amount of games (1,052). Kiner reached the mark in the fewest amount of at-bats (3,883). Judge holds these two record in the American League. George Brett took the longest time to hit 300 home runs; he reached the mark in his 2,593rd game and his 9,908th at-bat.
