2,000 RBI Club
2,000 Runs Batted In[edit]
The 2,000 RBI club is one of the most exclusive clubs in all of baseball. As of the 2021 season, there have been five players who achieved 2,000 career RBIs. The charter member of the 2,000 RBI club was Cap Anson, who reached the mark in the 1896 season. Major League Baseball among other sources, however does not recognize his earlier years in the National Association; therefore, his membership in the 2,000 RBI club is under dispute. In 1932, Babe Ruth became the first player to achieve 2,000 RBI in the American League. Hank Aaron was the first player to reach 2,000 RBI in the National League; he did so in 1972. Aaron is currently the all-time leader in career RBIs; he finished his career with 2,297 RBIs. He is also the only player in Major League history to accumulate 2,000 runs, 2,000 RBI and 3,000 hits.
There is also some discrepancy regarding Ruth's RBI total: the Elias Sports Bureau only compiles RBIs dating back to their adoption as an official statistic in 1920, cutting off a number of seasons from Ruth's career record. More thorough sources, like Baseball-Reference.com, list his entire career total.
Records and Trivia[edit]
Babe Ruth was the youngest and the fastest player in MLB history to reach 2,000 RBIs in his career. He achieved the feat in his 2,196th game when he was 37 years, 200 days old. Hank Aaron is the only NL player to reach 2,000 RBI and holds the all-time record. He reached 2,000 in his 2777th game when he was 38 years, 150 days old. Ruth was the only AL player to drive in 2,000 runs until Alex Rodriguez joined the club in his 2,626th game at 39 years, 321 days old.
