The 1933 Homestead Grays began the season in the revived Negro National League. They were 14-14-2 before being kicked out of the league for raiding the Detroit Stars of players.

Homestead had a strong offense, led by SS Ches Williams (.356/.397/.508, 152 OPS+) and 3B Jimmy Binder (.357/.379/.500, 144 OPS+). Their ace pitcher Ray Brown (6-2, 2.60, 175 ERA+) also doubled as a center fielder (.273/.291/.481, 112 OPS+) while George Britt was 1-0 with a 2.97 ERA (153 ERA+). Joe Strong had a 2-1, 2.45 record (185 ERA+) with a save and also played right field regularly, batting .286/.333/.393 for a 103 OPS+.

Other regulars included LF Vic Harris (.309/.330/.479, 123 OPS+) , 2B Tarcat Terry (.241/.333/.345, 90 OPS+) and C Double Duty Radcliffe (.222/.263/.250, 44 OPS+; 1-2, 7.27, 62 ERA+). George Gill (.389/.421/.500, 157 OPS+) and George McAllister (.289/.325/.447, 114 OPS+).
